Obituary
Harvey was born August 28, 1928 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He moved to Baton Rouge to attend Louisiana State University and graduated in 1949 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He met Betty Jacobs while attending LSU and they were married March 28, 1951. While at LSU he served as the Air Force Commanding Colonel of the ROTC program at LSU and was recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate. He furthered his education at the University of Illinois from 1949-1950, receiving an MS in Electrical Engineering.
Harvey's career as an engineer took the Schwartzbergs to many places: Schenectady, New York; Fort Worth, Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and finally Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he and Betty settled in 1986. A highlight of Harvey's professional life was his role with Trans-sonics, where he played an integral role in engineering propellant gauge systems for the Saturn 1 booster and the Lunar Lander.
Harvey deeply loved his home state, and was involved in the Kiwanis and Lions Club. He also served on the boards of the YMCA and the Baton Rouge Symphony. Harvey and Betty's deep commitment to LSU and its programs led them to sponsor academic and musical scholarships to benefit aspiring students. One of Harvey's greatest passions was his involvement with the Ole War Skule and the restoration of the William A. Brookshire Military Museum, located within LSU's Memorial Tower.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Meyer and Ida Schwartzberg. His sons Alan, Glen, and Michael are thankful for his guiding hand and exemplary life, and dearly miss "Happy Face", Harvey's CB handle. He is survived by Betty Jacobs Schwartzberg, their 3 sons, and their families including 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
